Clinically proven GLP-1

If you're searching for clinically proven and effective medications that can help you lose weight and manage diabetes, try GLP-1s. These FDA-approved medications are safe and can regulate appetite, lower blood sugar levels, and reduce cravings. GLP-1s stimulate the receptors in your body that activate glucagon-like peptide 1, making you feel fuller faster and satiated for extended periods.

Wegovy, Ozempic, Mounjaro, and Rybelsus are some of the GLP-1s that Miami Primary prescribes, and they are easy to use. You can either self-administer the medication or visit Miami Primary Health Wellness and Aesthetics to have a clinician assist with injections.

Weight Loss Program Questions

Could a GLP-1 prescription be suitable for me?

The first step is taking your comprehensive health assessment which includes a detailed look at your lab work results, BMI calculation, cognitive health evaluation, and a 30-minuts consultation with a clinician. Based on your results, your Miami Primary clinician will recommend the Weight Loss Program if you are eligible.

Who is eligible for weight loss medications?

Generally, people with a BMI>27 with additional risk factors or those with a BMI>30 are eligible for GLP-1 medication. Your Miami Primary clinician will advise whether you are a candidate for GLP-1 medication. If you are not, you will be to explore other options under our Weight Loss Program.

How much weight will I lose?

On average, people lose 15% of their body weight on GLP-1 medication when they also make consistent lifestyle changes. Everyone responds to medications differently, and your Miami Primary clinician is here to work with you to optimize your outcome.

Can I use insurance?

No, we do not accept Insurance. Our pharmacy partner works to get the most cost-effective GLP-1 option.

What GLP-1 medications does Miami Primary prescribe? And how much do they cost?

Miami Primary prescribes Ozempic (semaglutide) and Mounjaro, (tirzepatide). You can expect to spend $300-400 monthly on your GLP-1 medicine.

Are there any alternatives to GLP-1s?

Metformin is an oral medication that has been clinically linked with weight loss. It belongs to a group of drugs known as biguanide antihyperglycemic agents, which help stabilize blood sugar levels by curbing glucose production in the liver. This not only enhances insulin sensitivity but also improves anabolic signaling and promotes the breakdown of fat. On average, Metformin can help you lose about 5-7% of your body weight, making it a proven solution for shedding those extra pounds.

The medication works even better with a healthy diet and regular exercise. Our clinicians will be with you every step of the way, ensuring that you achieve your weight loss goals safely and sustainably.

What is the price of the weight loss program?

The Wellness Assessment costs $125. The cost of GLP-1 medication is not included in this program.

What is covered in follow-up appointments?

Your follow-up appointments will be focused on your progress, what is working well, and areas of improvement. Your clinician will answer any questions you have and work with you to provide the recommendations you need to hit your goals.

What are the side effects of GLP-1 medication?

Potential side effects of GLP-1s include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and an increased risk of thyroid cancer.

Medical weight loss typically involves the use of various interventions, including medications, to assist individuals in achieving their weight loss goals under the guidance of healthcare professionals. Three potential components that could be involved in a medical weight loss plan are Semaglutide and now - new FDA approved drug - Zepbound (Tirzepatide).

FDA approved in November 2023

The FDA recently approved a new Eli Lilly drug, Zepbound (tirzepatide), for chronic weight management in adults with at least one weight-related health condition.

Comparing Zepbound with Mounjaro, Wegovy, and Ozempic

All four of these medications are glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists, which helps with blood sugar control. However, Zepbound also activates a second hormone receptor.

Where Zepbound differs slightly is that it also imitates a second hormone, called GIPTrusted Source, which, along with reducing appetite, may also improve how the body breaks down sugar.

How does Zepbound work to treat obesity?

Zepbound is an obesity treatment made by Eli Lilly and Company. They are also the makers of type 2 diabetes medication Mounjaro.

Zepbound and Mounjaro share the same active ingredient called tirzepatide.

This new weight loss drug is for adults who are obese with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 kg/m2 or greater or those who are overweight with a BMI of 27 kg/m2 or greater and who also have a weight-related medical issue.

Additionally, the medication should be used with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

The FDA approval of Zepbound is based on the results of the SURMOUNT-1 and SURMOUNT-2Trusted Source phase 3 clinical trials.

Through these studies, researchers reported that over 72 weeks, participants who took the highest dose of Zepbound lost an average of 48 lbs, and those who took the lowest dose lost an average of 34 lbs.

The studies also found that one in three participants taking Zepbound at the highest dose lost over 58 lbs or 25% of their body weight.

“In comparison, surgical weight loss typically causes 30-35% total body weight loss,” Dr. Kuldeep Singh, director of the Maryland Bariatric Center at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, MD — who was not involved in this study — told Medical News Today.

The average starting weight for a study participant was 231 lbs.

Mounjaro

Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) works similarly Semaglutide, but it contains an extra molecule that may give it a slight edge.

The medication has a dual-action design, mimicking the action of not one but two incretin hormones involved in appetite control.

Tirzepatide has been shown to decrease food intake and increase energy expenditure therefore resulting in weight reductions and weight loss programs, and  due to it's unique property, may result in greater effects on  body weight, glucose and lipids.
